This Honey lot from Ngoma Washing Station offers a vibrant Rwandan coffee experience, bursting with round, complex sweetness and bright notes of guava and lychee, perfectly balanced by a delightful acidity.
Located near the town of Kavumu, the land surrounding Ngoma station is covered with dense forests and peppered with hills. The station was built in 2005 by the Rwanda company, MIG (Multisector Investment Group) Coffee, who received help from a USAID program aimed at renewing Rwanda’s coffee industry. Today, Ngoma is co-owned by MIG Coffee and Coffee Business Center (CBC).
During the harvest season, cherry is selectively handpicked by farmers and their families. At intake, staff sort cherry by hand and then float the cherry to check for density. The station accepts only cherry that passes both visual hand sorting and floating. Sorting work consumes over 70% of seasonal labor, but Rusatira knows it is worth it.
After sorting and intake, cherry is placed in pulping machines to separate the outer husk and only part of the mucilage. Then, coffee is taken to drying beds where it’s dried for 30-35 days. During this process, workers remove damaged parchment and foreign matter and rake frequently to ensure even drying and a high-quality final product.
