Java Alfiner Pollung | semi-washed
Alfiner and Julia Lumban Gaol are unique siblings, who have been working at their mills since the beginning of 2017 situated about 7 hours’ drive north of Medan, the capital of North Sumatra province. The precise words to describe these brothers would probably be: Collaborative and Enterprising. Alfiner and Julia grew up in a coffee family, overcoming the challenges that local farmers experienced when selling their beans. Apart from running the two mills, they invest in supporting their
livelihoods by buying premium grains and bringing welfare to the community.
Known as coffee “pickers”, they travelled throughout the region of Pollung, that means a dialogue” in the Batak language, picking quality coffee cherries from the 170 smallholder farmers, eventually becoming an integral part of the local coffee community.
The harvesting process is carried out by selective picking of 100% red cherries. Green beans sorting process is also carried out so that the seeds are homogeneous. Quality standards are adjusted to the standards of the Specialty Coffee Association of Indonesia (SCAI).
